Background

In May 2020 ,you may recall that we shared an initiative by Everards to completely clear the cellars in all Everards pubs of all draught products. During June 2020 our own tech service teams completed an extensive exercise and destroyed hundreds of casks and kegs. We decided to undertake this exercise ourselves despite the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) developing their own website and ‘Return your beer’ portal. We went quickly and efficiently and completed our exercise before the BBPA portal was fully tested and in place. We were brilliantly supported by our suppliers and we were able to arrange credits for unbroached credits and duty credits for broached stock.

Since June 2020 we have all experienced continued disruption to trade and very few pubs have had a sustained period of draught drink sales that would allow for any kind of normality around ‘stock and orders.’ We are aware that there is still some stock in pub cellars, although not to the same levels caused by the sudden lockdown first time around. We were informed by our suppliers that there would be no further credits for draught drinks during this latest lockdown and shared that message with you when we made a series of announcements around substantial rent reductions.

Support

We work in a fabulous industry and we are fortunate that drinks brand owners continue to be supportive- more supportive than we could ever have forecasted them to be given the £millions of cost first time around. Therefore we are pleased to to be able inform you that this situation has now changed for some brands. The major draught drink suppliers are now in a position where they have aligned again and are now offering full credit for unbroached stock delivered to you by Everards after July 2020. Most brands are saying they will not credit broached stock (details are on the website).

Please note, as per our previous communications, we are unable to offer credit for any cask ales including Everards, broached or unbroached. There is no credit available for any packaged products.

We believe this is exceptional and incremental support as the beer was not supplied to us or to you on a ‘sale or return’ basis. It’s a further cost to our suppliers and also creates a substantial cost to Everards for administrating the credits and to pass back the full price to you price you.We see this as further investment and support

Next steps

The BBPA website worked well last time for the many users so we will also use that this time rather than sending out our teams. If you have unbroached stock that you are seeking credit for, then you will need to use this website.

We are asking you to register your pub on https://www.returnyourbeer.co.uk/. Diageo (Guinness) have set up their own separate website that works in much the same way. https://www.mydiageo.com/s/keg-destruction-application-form-public. Our friends at Heineken have prepared a helpful guide, please see attached.

Please read carefully and do not destroy any beer until you have received permission from the brand owner e.g. Heineken for Fosters, Molson Coors for Carling, Diageo for Guinness. You will receive that permission once you have registered. Please ensure you enter ‘Everards’ from the drop down box of suppliers, that way we can all be certain that any credit due will be passed on. If the beer brand is not on the list on the ‘Return your beer website’ then unfortunately credit is not available.

Please do follow the documented process. As the Brand owners sanction your claims, they will forward the credits to Everards for what we paid for the goods, we will then pass on a credit to you, for what you paid for the goods. Its likely to be in two week batches starting mid March. You will see there are different BB4 date criteria for beers that can be credited.
