Justin and Wayne share what it's like owing a pub business
We catch up with our friends Justin and Wayne at The Queens Head to chat about what it's like to own a pub business and their plans for the future.
This is an exciting milestone in the development of our new state-of-the-art brewery. As the brewing equipment is lifted into place, it is becoming a reality!
After seeing Everards’ Castle Acres brewery being demolished last year, it was a great moment when 16 stainless steel brewing vessels were lifted into our new home which is being built at the new Everards Meadows development, opposite Fosse Shopping park.
The building will be the first of its kind in the area. Along with the state-of-the-art brewery it will feature a flexible food and drink space, a retail store and offices.
“We were inspired by the type of interesting spaces they have in America and Australia, where you see lots of bars attached to breweries. So, we set out to create a vibrant space where people will be able to enjoy a pint looking directly at the brewery and this flexible space will also play host to tasting sessions, brewery tours and many other events. There will also be a store where visitors can purchase their favourite beers to enjoy at home” Stephen Gould,
Managing Director of Everards
£5.5m has been invested into our new brewing equipment alone, supplied by industry leaders Briggs of Burton, who are working with us on the design and engineering of the our new brewery.
Rob Buxton, Managing Director at Briggs of Burton commented: “We have worked with Everards on their previous breweries, including the previous Castle Acres brewery back in the early 1980’s, so it’s a real privilege to be involved in their innovative new brewery, again here in their hometown”.
The next milestone for the development will be in January when the brewing tanks will be installed, ready for the completion of the building, which is due to open to the public autumn 2020. The brewery will have the capacity to produce more than 4.3 million pints of beer every year.
“After many years in development, it’s so exciting to see these vessels going in. They are the first pieces of the puzzle and play a huge part in the brewing process. It’s all starting to come to life, and we can’t wait to get up and running and bring ‘Tiger’ home! The new brewery will also give us the ability to brew a fantastic range of innovate beers exclusively to serve in Everards pubs, onsite at the bar and at selected partners such as Leicester Tigers and the Leicester Morningside Arena.” Says Nick Arthur, Operations Director of Everards.
Neil Truelove, project manager at Kier, who is leading on the development commented: “Reaching this milestone is a very proud moment for the Everards project team and vital towards us completing phase 1B of the project. Looking forward to the new year we’ll be installing the brewery tanks and continuing to deliver the project ready for the opening in autumn 2020.”
