Barrow-upon-Soar is a large village in Leicestershire and is pleasantly situated on the east side of the River Soar, and on both sides of the Midland Railway.

The village is 3 miles S.E. of Loughborough, and 9 miles north of Leicester and is known for a plesiosaur that was excavated here in 1851. The specimen of Atychodracon megacephalus, found in a lime pit outside the village, was nicknamed the "Barrow Kipper".

At the centre of the village is a roundabout with a sign depicting its skeleton. The skeleton is now on display at the Leicester Museum & Art Gallery, with a full-size replica at Charnwood Museum in Loughborough.

Barrow upon Soar is a popular bustling village with a full range of shops and local amenities close to open countryside, yet within commuting distance of Loughborough and Leicester via the train station.

There are fantastic schools within the catchment area together with a range of interesting independent shops, tearooms, six public houses and accommodation.

There is a superb selection of local groups and societies and Barrow has managed to retain the community at the heart of village life.

Barrow upon Soar even has its own railways station, located on the Midland Main Line between Leicester and Loughborough, 108 miles north of London St Pancras.
